Course Description
CompTIA Network+ validates the knowledge and skills of networking professionals. It is an international, vendor-neutral certification that recognizes a technician's ability to describe the features and functions of networking components and to install, configure and troubleshoot basic networking hardware, protocols and services. Many corporations and organizations recommend or require the CompTIA Network+ certification for their IT employees. As the demand for skilled network support professionals grows, CompTIA Network+ is quickly becoming the standard for networking competency,
Prerequisites
-
CompTIA A+ Certification or at least a working knowledge of PC hardware and Operating Systems
-
Students should already have a basic understanding of networks and how they function. A recommended 8-hour workshop to be completed prior to this program would be the Introduction to Networks: Ethernet to Wireless and Understanding TCP/IP Seminar or equivalent knowledge.
Industry Support for CompTIA Network+
The demand for skilled network support professionals continues to grow, and CompTIA Network+ is a valuable credential to help start or enhance a networking career. In fact, many IT certifications integrate CompTIA Network+ into their curriculums. Microsoft added CompTIA Network+ into their Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) program, and other corporations such as Cisco, Novell, HP, Lotus and 3Com also recognize CompTIA Network+ as part of their certification tracks.
- CompTIA Network+® and the US
Department of Defense
In 2004, the US Department of Defense (DoD) established Directive 8570.1: Information Assurance Training, Certification and Workforce Management. It requires that all DoD Information Assurance technicians and managers are trained and certified. CompTIA Network+ is an approved certification that meets DoD requirements.
Approved for DOD
Information Assurance Directive 8570.1
Directive 8570 is a policy from the Department of Defense’s
Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program that requires
any DoD employee and any contractor working with the DoD
to possess certain Information Assurance training and
certifications. The Directive makes certain that Information
Assurance personnel meet training and certification requirements
related to their IT security job functions via annual metrics
reporting of their workforce.
The goal of the Directive is a uniform, professional Information
Assurance workforce with the knowledge and skills to effectively
prevent and respond to attacks against DoD information, information
systems and information infrastructures. The efforts of this program
and Directive 8570 will enable the DoD to properly place Information
Assurance personnel according to their skills.

The U.S. Department of Defense recognizes CompTIA certifications in its technical and management tracks for information assurance technicians and managers under DoD Directive 8570.1M. Currently CBT offers instructor -led courses for CompTIA A+ and Network+ Certification, and web-based courses for CompTIA Security+. Potential employees as well as current employees or IT contractors must meet the requirements of the Directive to be employed.
