Course Description
An implementation date of
October 1, 2013 has been set
for ICD-10-CM. This course was developed by Bill Hess, retired from a 45-year career of teaching and self-employed business activity,
to allow experienced ICD-9 coders to practice with the ICD-10 codes
in order to be prepared for the significant changes. Bill's teaching experience included secondary public schools, county vocational schools, and community colleges. Bill presently teaches these courses in the Continuing Education Department at fifteen North Carolina Community Colleges and many out-of-state schools via the internet.
This course is a compilation of information that has been published
by various government, hospital, medical, and professional
organizations regarding the introduction of ICD-10-CM on October 1,
2013. Students will be required to download
software for this course to their computer from
www.dlearn.com/buynow.htm
at a cost of approximately $65.
The download allows the use of an online ICD-10-CM database
to help the student get
practice with the new codes. In addition, the entire alphabetical,
tabular, and guidelines are available for the course participant to download in
PDF format ($110 value when purchased from the publisher).
The material in this 6-week, 39-hour course is entirely self-paced.
Technical support is included but no instructor led training is
offered.
Continuing Education Credit
Upon successful completion of each course, participants will receive a College transcript verifying that the College has awarded the appropriate number of continuing education units (CEUs). The Medical Coding and Billing Specialist Certificate will be awarded only after completion of all required courses.
