Introduction to TCP/IP

Course Description

This course is designed to introduce the student to the TCP/IP Protocol suite.   We will explore the protocols such SMTP, POP3, Telnet, and FTP, to better understand how firewalls operate.   Students will dissect  IP addresses and their subnet masks to understand IP subnet design,  You will be able to quickly interpret an IP address's network, and valid range of IP addresses to help facilitate troubleshooting LANs and VLANs.

 The seminar will discuss several of the major concepts of TCP/IP including: 
  • Major Protocols
  • IP Addressing/Subnet Masking
  • Default Gateways
  • DNS
  • DHCP
  • Ports and Sockets
  • Concept of a Firewall

Prerequisite: 

  • Introduction to Local Area Networks or equivalent experience.
